Paúl Gomex Founder / Artistic Director

Paúl Gomex is a circus and movement artist, musician, director, educator and musician based in Bozeman, Montana. His work bridges circus, dance, theater, and embodied research, emphasizing ensemble practice, creative risk, and physical intelligence.

Gomex has trained and performed across disciplines and contexts—from the European theater festival circuit and the Venice Biennale to international performance work in refugee camps and conflict zones. He holds a Master’s degree in Physical Theatre from the Academy Dimitri, a world-class program internationally recognized for its influence on contemporary physical and circus-based performance. His practice has been shaped through collaborations with artists including David Zambrano and Mary Overlie, among others.

He founded 406Cirque to create a long-term home for contemporary circus and movement practice in Bozeman—one rooted in presence, curiosity, and community. His teaching and artistic leadership focus on research, collaboration, and building sustainable cultural infrastructure through performance and training.

Naomi Shafer Executive Director

Naomi Shafer is a performer, educator, and arts leader dedicated to building inclusive, sustainable creative spaces. With a background in circus, theater, and movement-based performance, she brings both artistic and organizational vision to 406Cirque.

Naomi has performed internationally, including work in refugee camps and conflict zones, experiences that continue to shape her belief in performance as a civic practice.

As Executive Director, she oversees programming, operations, and community partnerships, ensuring that 406Cirque remains accessible, artist-centered, and deeply connected to the community it serves. She is a graduate of the San Francisco Circus Center’s Clown Conservatory and holds an Aerial Teacher Certification from Nimble Arts.

Ansel Mills Performer, Teaching Artist

Ansel Mills a teaching artist and performer with 406Cirque and an active member of Bozeman’s theater community. He returned to Montana after earning a B.A. in Theater from Oberlin College and has performed locally at venues including the Ellen and the Blue Slipper Theatre.

Ansel’s training includes classical and physical theater studies with the British American Drama Academy in London and the Grotowski Institute in Poland, where he worked with Teatr ZAR. His work at 406Cirque draws on this background in ensemble-based performance and physical storytelling, supporting students in developing presence, expressiveness, and embodied awareness through joy and play.

Kat Stephens Teaching Artist

Kat Stephens began her aerial training in 2014 and quickly developed a broad, interdisciplinary practice across silks, lyra, static and flying trapeze, pole, acrobatics, and dance. She has trained in Montana and Seattle and holds certifications in Elemental Hoopdance and the International Dance Academy of Hollywood.

Kat has worked as a traveling performance artist, appearing at large-scale festivals and events with companies including Insomniac Entertainment. She began teaching in 2017 and is passionate about helping students build confidence, connection, and personal expression through movement. Outside the studio, Kat works as a holistic life coach and movement practitioner.

As both a performer and instructor, Margaret brings a grounded, attentive approach to movement practice, supporting participants in building confidence, awareness, and skill.

Jackie brings financial expertise and strategic clarity to the 406Cirque board. She is a Certified Public Accountant and currently serves as Finance Director at CPI Card Group, with prior experience as Controller at Gibson.

Jackie is skilled at balancing day-to-day operations with long-term sustainability and has been an engaged member of the 406Cirque community for several years. Her stewardship supports the organization’s responsible growth and financial health.

Steve is a connector who turns ideas into action. Through his daughter’s time at 406Cirque, he witnessed how the organization builds confidence, self-advocacy, and clarity—far beyond technical skill. Steve champions that broader impact with generosity and conviction.

He brings extensive experience building relationships through startup communities, volunteer work, and the organization of international conferences.

Isabel Shaida Secretary

Isabel Shaida is a movement artist and performer based in Bozeman, Montana. Audiences may recognize her as the first Scrooge in A Circus Carol.

She devises ensemble-driven work and serves as a movement director and teaching artist. Isabel trained in the 2018–19 SITI Conservatory in the Suzuki Method and Six Viewpoints and continues to explore somatic and developmental movement. She is a company member of Nervous Theatre and has performed with Monica Bill Barnes & Co. and Double Edge Theatre.
